All
the Punta del Este beaches are public. They have transparent,
crystalline waters, that are excellent for bathes, some
beaches have quiet waters and others have big waves, as
well as some have thin white sands and others, thick golden
sands. We will make now a brief
description of the characteristics of Punta del Este beaches
starting at the bridge over the Portero Brook. The first
one is "Chihuahua", famous for the practice of
naturism. The following one is "Solanas" which
brings an excellent landscape and striking sunsets, is a
beach with quiet waters, ideal for kids. Punta Ballena protects
this beach fro the East winds.-
At
the East side of Punta Ballena, there is a long and large
shore that reaches the Peninsula, known as Playa Mansa which
changes its depth and sand thickness in different sites.
The names the different beaches have are the same names
of the Inns placed along the coast. They are family beaches,
with few waves, shortdepth, good for kid bathes, from "Stop
25" tothe Peninsula, specially. Getting to the Peninsula,
going along the Ramble that surrounds it, you will reach,
south, the "El Emir" beach. This is a small but
excellent beach, with a numerous attendance, surfers mainly,
with shake waters and big waves.
-
Going always east by the Ramble, we get to the "Brava"
shore, starting at the "Stop 1", that is from
the Peninsula
and from a rocky area, and finishing at the Maldonado Brook
mouth. These beaches have strong waves and they take its
names from the Inns, too.
After this, following the Maldonado Brook coast, in direction
to the "Puente Ondulante",
is a quiet and peaceful beach, "El Placer". After
having crossed the waving bridge "Puente Ondulante",
we find the Maldonado Brook north shore beach, with quiet
waters, ideal for nautical activities. Having reached "La
Barra, surrounded by rocky ground is a little and pleasant
beach known as "Posta del Cangrejo".
Following Route 10 east, we find many beaches with less
important resorts, which sands, waters and fishing are striking.
From La Barra, the first one is "Montoya", a deep
beach of transparent waters with high waves - ideal for
surfers - where youth meet in a surrounding of real charm.
After "Montoya", there is "Manantiales"
separated from the former by a group of rocks that forms
an excellent fishery for the white "corvine",
This beach can be dangerous in occasions, because the permanent
violence of its waves. Following "Manantiales",
there is "Las Dunas", identified by the Hotel
with the same name. It is not too visited and that makes
of it a very quiet beach. It has thick sands and big waves.
Another rocky area separates it from the "Bikini"
beach, a beach that is nowadays very visited and is at the
top of the youth preference. Here you can see top models
and people from the Jet set of Punta del Este.
After another rocky zone, appears "Terrazas de Manatiales",
with the building complex with the same name. Here you may
find well-known VIP looking for some quietness.
This beach longs until a little amounts of rocks that marks
the beginning of "El Chorro" and "Punta Piedras"
beaches that ends in a large rocky ground, divided by a
very small but beautiful beach. Once the rock ground disappeared,
the long "Balneario Buenos Aires" begins. It is
no very popular and for that reason it is preferred by those
who are looking for real peacefulness or by fishermen. It
ends at the beginning of the exclusive Balneario "José
Ignacio". This one is a very big beach whose principal
characteristic is being really deep. The different excellent
fisheries in this place give name to each zone.
Although all the shore is adequate for fishing, there are
places with parking areas very near the coast. For this
reason they are properly called fisheries, like: "Palitos",
"El Barco", "El Pozo de los Tiburones",
etc. Going east along the beach, we find the bridge over
the Jose Ignacio Lagoon, after crossing it we reach "La
Juanita" Resort, a deep beach good fishery for the
Drumfish -black "corvine"- that finishes at the
"José Ignacio" Resort.
